Roger Knox, an award-winning graphic designer, has recently turned his
attention to acrylic painting. His works reflect his interest of
indigenous cultures, science, technology and music.
The highly
detailed, intensely colorful and stylized depictions of the natural
world also use visual language gleaned from scientific observation and
discovery.
Since 1987, Knox has made regular, lengthy trips to Mexico to study
the indigenous culture and art that has inspired his artistic
vision. His artwork has been exhibited in the U.S. and Mexico.
Knox's many years of experience and accomplishments in the graphic arts
have included design projects for varied fields such as health care,
entertainment, NGOs, education and music. One area of particular focus
has been the design of college-level textbooks for Thomson Publishing
Group, a renowned international publisher. Several of his acrylic
paintings have found their way onto the covers of textbooks along with
his commercial illustration and digital art. His interest in marine
environments led to his association with the Monterey Bay Aquarium, for
whom he designed a poster in 2002 celebrating the highly successful and
creative "Jellies: Living Art" exhibit.
Originally from Los Angeles, Knox lived for 15 years in Monterey before
settling in San Francisco.
